Relaxation Exercises

 

For several years now I have introduced my clients to a couple of basic relaxation and calming exercises.

 

The first exercise is deep muscle relaxation training. This exercise requires little imagination. I will ask you to tense and relax the various muscles of your body. The Exercise is approximately 22 minutes long and will relax you. If you do this once a day for 2 weeks you will kind that you will begin to be more relaxed during the course of the day.

 

The second exercise is autogenic training. This exercise requires some imagination and allows you to calm your self in a way that does not require any physical movement. People who have used this exercise have found that over time it lowers blood pressure pulse and respiration rates. If used on a regular basis you will find yourself calmer and more relaxed throughout the day.

After this assessment goals for therapy are formulated and agreed upon. Throughout treatment these goals are assessed and progress monitored.

In couples and family therapy communication skills, solution focused strategies and developing healthier family patterns is emphasized.

 

As in all therapy assessment and treatment planning is an integral part of what we do. The goals of counseling are facilitated by contracting for behaviors, homework and directives.
